“Resistance”

Resistance is everywhere and within everyone of us.

When we resist something, we are at the very edge of self-discovery.

Something meaningful is potentially inches away or just out of ear shot. With a few more steps or a slight shift in perception, our lives could change.

We often resist our answers because they are not familiar to us. We resist the unknown or the unfamiliar even if it offers us resolution.

We resist because we often don’t know any better and because to not do so feels unfamiliar.

Some Repercussions of Being Resistant

When we resist, our life gets more and more painful to live.
When we don’t listen to the little voice in our head telling us not to eat the ice cream because we are lactose intolerant, we suffer.
When we choose to continue an abusive relationship with a partner, we suffer.
When we agree to tasks way above and beyond our capabilities, we suffer.
When we sacrifice our well-being for monetary gain, we suffer.

When we resist, the impulse to protect who we are, we begin to lose ourselves in self-pitying inner dialogues or revengeful thoughts.

When we ignore our inner wisdom in the pursuit of a goal, we will suffer the consequences either physically with dysfunction or illness, emotionally with depression or apathy, mentally with victimization or self-righteousness and spiritually with arrogance or intolerance. Any one of these dynamics is a recipe for suffering, as well as, a clear indication that we are on the edge of self-discovery.

That being said…Suffering is a viable way to journey through life. It just means you will be accompanied by Dark Teachers who must speak to you in loud and definitive ways. Remember, you are never abandoned so your 'assistance' will follow you into the darkness. You have the choice to live your life as you choose. The Divine will follow you every where you go.

A Plan of Action

Is your life marked by difficult challenges or synchronistic events where you are often in the right place at the right time? This is all a matter of awareness and intention. When you wake up to your patterns, you get to decide how to live your life.

There are consequences to everything you do, but you are the one in charge of your choices. Will you create events that bring you easily to resolution – or will you walk through hardship?

If you believe that life is hard and that challenges build character or that all things valuable must be fought for – your life will configure around these beliefs. If you embrace the specifics of your life, learn from them, meet your challenges and then consciously review the beliefs you have and the dynamics that repeat themselves – your life will configure around these intentions. It is only with awareness that you can change your intentions and make new choices.

A suggestion….If you have a nonproductive relationship with your boss and have never been heard, speak in a different tone in your next interactions, write a clear email about your concerns or examine your concerns for their validity.

Another suggestion…If your relationship with one of your parents is unclear or damaged, approach the situation with new eyes. Presume there is a resolution just out of your reach. To maintain a dysfunctional relationship is to resist the resolution attempting to surface.

Only you can change the dynamics in your life that create suffering. You are not meant to suffer. You are meant to resolve suffering. You are meant to live a productive, enriching life and to be in sync with What Is. It is not your challenges that make you stronger. It is your ability to find resolution that does.

Self-discover your part in the very prevalent energy of resistance. Begin by recognizing where in your life you are resisting your intuition or gut instinct. Here are three simple guidelines:

1) Intend to become less resistant. (Don’t try to figure this out. Just make an intention to do so.)

2) Practice Open Listening. (Listen more deeply or on a different level than you have in the past.)

3) Presume resolution is hidden in the darkest folds of your life.

And...when you heal yourself, you are a part of a much larger resolution than that related to your own personal crisis. The Truth is that when you heal yourself, you heal the world because of our interconnectedness.
